This painting represents one of my best friends, who was a sea captain lost at sea. During a frightful storm, his navigational gear was taken out by a lightning strike. Just when he thought his life was over, he battled through the night with out power. Huge waves crashed upon his hull and his small craft took in water. Jonathan thought this was the end when he looked up into the sky and as black clouds dispersed, he could suddenly see the big dipper and the Northstar . This was the best outcome one could pray for and soon he was taken back to safety.. I painted this dramatic 60 x 48 contemplating Jonathan’s thoughts. If you look carefully, there are abstract images of mermaids and different objects that one may think about while at sea in distress. He obviously had the heavens above working with him . When the lights are off, you can see a special glow-in-the-dark paint, depicting the Northstar and the big dipper.
